{"id":2050,"date":"2022-11-05T10:47:50","date_gmt":"2022-11-05T10:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ourcharism.org\/?p=2050"},"modified":"2022-11-05T10:47:50","modified_gmt":"2022-11-05T10:47:50","slug":"docility-of-the-magisterium-of-the-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ourcharism.org\/index.php\/2022\/11\/05\/docility-of-the-magisterium-of-the-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Docility of the Magisterium of the Church"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Docility of the Magisterium of the Church<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Because the Institute was born <em>in <\/em>the Catholic Church and is <em>of <\/em>the Catholic Church and <em>for <\/em>the Catholic Church, we members of the Institute of the Incarnate Word are formed for the Church.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From this it follows that a religious of the Incarnate Word \u201crecognizes the primary and supreme authority of the Supreme Pontiff, and professes not only obedience to him, but also fidelity, filial submission, adherence, and disposition for the service of the universal Church.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> He makes himself nothing at the feet of the Church<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> and does not want anyone to surpass him \u201cin faithful obedience, obsequiousness, and love of the Holy Father and the Bishops, to whom the Holy Spirit has given the governance of the Church of God.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this sense our <em>Constitutions<\/em> determine\u2014as it could not be any other way\u2014that our specific end of the evangelization of the culture must be achieved \u201cin accordance with the teachings of the Magisterium of the Church.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> And from here emanates this non-negotiable element adjoined to the charism, which is \u201cdocility to the Church\u2019s living Magisterium of all times.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a> For we seek in the treasure of the Church\u2019s Magisterium the solidity, the purity, and the proximate norm of faith that the sublime task of evangelizing requires.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Accordingly, we consider it to be fundamental that our religious be <em>nourished on the words of the faith and of the good doctrine<\/em>,<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a> principally by \u201cloving knowledge and prayerful familiarity with the Word of God,\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn7\" name=\"_ftnref7\">[7]<\/a> by means of which they will acquire holy \u201cfamiliarity with the Word made flesh,\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn8\" name=\"_ftnref8\">[8]<\/a> and that they be formed in the \u201cstrictest fidelity to the Church\u2019s supreme Magisterium of all times,\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn9\" name=\"_ftnref9\">[9]<\/a> solidly instructed in a sound theology\u2014which \u201ccomes from faith and tries to lead to faith\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn10\" name=\"_ftnref10\">[10]<\/a>\u2014built on \u201ca profound knowledge of the philosophy of being.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn11\" name=\"_ftnref11\">[11]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We are convinced that a true evangelization of the culture cannot be attained\u2014and not even conceived of\u2014without fidelity to the Magisterium of Peter and to the bishops united to him, all of which is demonstrated in the innumerable quotes from magisterial texts in our proper law. For the \u201cfunction of the Magisterium is not, then, something extrinsic to Christian truth nor is it set above the faith. It arises directly from the economy of the faith itself, inasmuch as the Magisterium is, in its service to the Word of God, an institution positively willed by Christ as a constitutive element of His Church.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn12\" name=\"_ftnref12\">[12]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Indeed, in order to attain our specific end in the Church, that is, in order to permeate cultures with the Gospel, our Constitutions prescribe as fundamental elements not only the teachings of the Second Vatican Council\u2019s Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, <em>Gaudium et spes<\/em>, but also the Apostolic Exhortations <em>Evangelii nuntiandi <\/em>and <em>Catechesi tradendae<\/em>, Pope Saint John Paul II\u2019s speech to UNESCO and others on the same subject, the <em>Puebla Document<\/em>, the Encyclical Letter <em>Slavorum Apostoli<\/em>, the Encyclical Letter <em>Redemptoris missio<\/em>, the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation <em>Pastores dabo vobis<\/em>, n. 55, c, and any forthcoming directives, orientations, and teachings of the ordinary Magisterium of the Church that may be issued regarding the specific purpose of our small Religious Family.<a href=\"#_ftn13\" name=\"_ftnref13\">[13]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Therefore, out of love for Christ and for His Mystical Body, we religious of the Institute consecrate our \u201cspiritual life for the benefit of the whole Church\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn14\" name=\"_ftnref14\">[14]<\/a> and dedicate ourselves to \u201cworking according to our strength and according to the form of our own vocation, whether with prayer or with apostolic ministry, in order for Christ\u2019s kingdom to be established and strengthened in souls and in order to expand it throughout the whole world.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn15\" name=\"_ftnref15\">[15]<\/a> And, thus, we feel and act \u201calways with [the Church], in accord with the teachings and the norms of the Magisterium of Peter and of the Shepherds in communion with him,\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn16\" name=\"_ftnref16\">[16]<\/a> because we know that we are called to be witnesses to ecclesial communion (<em>sentire cum Ecclesia<\/em>) through \u201cthe adherence of mind and heart to the Magisterium of the Bishops, and to live it with loyalty and testify to it with clarity before the People of God.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn17\" name=\"_ftnref17\">[17]<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dedicated to living in its fullness the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word, our intellectual formation has as its object the study of truth, and the living Magisterium of the Church is precisely one of the sources where we quench that thirst for the truth since\u2014as stated in our proper law\u2014\u201cthe Magisterium can speak about \u2018that truth which is Christ Himself.\u2019\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn18\" name=\"_ftnref18\">[18]<\/a> Indeed, our formation is done with full ecclesial awareness and solicitude, in full obedience to the successor of Peter, with sincere respect for his magisterium, and in fidelity to the Holy See.
